Why so many different shoes?

Shoes, shoes and more shoes! Bring on the shoes! Shoes these days are a great deal different to those our ancestors wore. They were just strips of leather tied on with thongs. These days we have shoes for every occasion and each pair is just that little bit different to its neighbour. We have our comfortable but smart shoes we wear to the office, then we can change to smart stilettos for that evening date.

But when we go jogging in the morning or evening we need yet another kind of shoe, the jogger or runner. That will keep our tootsies safe when we go running down the street and across the park. Of course if we go horseback riding we need a different kind of shoe for safety; riding boots. With its elastic sides and upper extension over the ankle, the riding boot is comfortable and protective.

Back to town to get on with our day's shopping we need a pair of flats, mules or slides for quick and easy walking down those long aisles of food. But when we hit the beaches at the weekend we'll need our flip-flops - unless of course the sand is burning hot and we decide to wear our sandshoes into the surf. Once we get back home we find our favourite fluffy slippers or scuffs to rest and relax in. Or we might just go back to the ancestors' habits and wear bare feet instead of any shoes.
