Clothing Styles

From the time that clothing was first used there have been many different clothing styles and variations. At first, clothing was used entirely as protection against the weather, either cold or hot. Thick warm clothing styles protect against cold and rain, but lighter clothing will prevent sun or windburn. We also use clothing styles to proclaim social status via branding like Gucci or D&G or rank as seen in military uniforms.

Clothing styles are traditionally invented to suit the climate of a country. Hot, tropical countries see those living there with hardly any clothing on at all, while colder countries find the inhabitants clad to the eyeballs in all manner of warm things such as scarves and beanies, coats and jackets and socks and boots.

Those who live in temperate climates are the luckiest. They need only dress to suit themselves rather than the climate. Their clothing styles can be more varied than those of colder climates. They don't need to depend on their clothing styles for summer sun protection nor for the winter cold - at least, not to any great degree. Their clothing styles reflect a more carefree way of life. Clothing styles have also been used to reflect religious beliefs and to fit in with the kind of work a person must do.
